Falls are among the most common cause of serious work related injuries and deaths. It is imperative that employers set up the work place in a way that prevents employees from injury due to falls at work. Employers must:
- Guard every floor hole into which a worker could step into.
- Provide a guard rail and toe-board around every open sided platform, floor or runway.
- If a worker can fall into dangerous machines or equipment, employers must provide guardrails and toe-boards to prevent workers from falling and getting injured.
- Other means of fall protection that may be required include safety harness and line, safety nets, stair railings, and hand rails.
