RAM's History
1931
RAM Mutual Insurance Company was incorporated in 1931 as Farm Mutual Reinsurance Association of Minnesota. Located in Herman, the company's sole purpose was providing reinsurance coverage to the founding Township Mutuals.
1949
Moved to Esko, MN.
1957
The company's name was changed to the Farm Mutual Reinsurance Association.
1967
The company’s name was changed to the Reinsurance Association of Minnesota.
1969
RAM building in Esko was remodeled and expanded.
1973
RAM produced a booklet called "Fire Safety in Agricultural Buildings”. This publication has been distributed nationwide.
1974
RAM entered the direct lines area and began writing Workers Compensation Insurance, Farmers Comprehensive Personal Liability and Special Multi-Peril Insurance and Wind Insurance on Poultry.
1976
RAM entered the direct wind business, the ancestor of the package wind products today.
1978
RAM began a 40 X 90 addition with basement.
1979
RAM released another loss control publication, "Fire Safety in Solid Fuel-Burning Systems".
1982
RAM General Agency was formed as an outlet for writing additional lines of business. This is how auto was originally written.
1985
RAM began writing Direct Homeowners (DH).
1990
RAM added Personal Umbrella (UM).
1991
RAM began offering Commercial Package Policy (CPP).
1992
RAM added Commercial Umbrella.
1993
RAM's Board of Directors voted and decided to begin writing auto insurance. RAM began writing Commercial auto in 1999 and Personal Auto in 2001
1996
RAM acquired Statewide Reinsurance Underwriters (SRU)
2000
The company's name was changed to RAM Mutual Insurance Company, a name that reflects our current operation.
2012
RAM added Dwelling Fire (DF).
2014
RAM began writing commercial lines in North Dakota.
2015
RAM began offering personal lines home and auto in North Dakota.
2016
RAM began offering dwelling fire in North Dakota.
2017
RAM began offering personal umbrella in North Dakota.
2018
RAM moved into a new building just a short distance down the road from the old office building.
2019
RAM began offering farmowners insurance in North Dakota.
